Bay Ridge Christian College
is a residential two-year Christian junior college continuing the legacy of Dr. Horace Germany who founded it 53 years ago to prepare African-American leadership for both urban and rural churches and the communities they serve. Today, we have grown to serve a multicultural population. Bay Ridge is a two-year junior college that provides an alternative college experience for students who may not be prepared to attend a four-year college or university. Students who complete our program may transfer to four-year universities or colleges to pursue their bachelor’s degree. Academic standing is based on universities’ and colleges’ admission transfer polices. Currently, we are a non-accredited educational institution in the process of seeking degree-granting authority and accreditation with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), respectively. Our Founder
Dr. Germany was born on February 9, 1914, in a cabin in the piney woods of Union, Mississippi. He was the first of eight children born to Mack Henry and Reagan Germany. Dr. Germany graduated from Anderson College, Anderson, Indiana, in 1944. The vision the Lord gave to Dr. Germany, was to prepare leadership for Black churches in the South. The college sought to provide an opportunity for persons to come to college and have their education paid for by working in an extensive work study program. The sole purpose of the college was to train men and women for the ministry while teaching them a trade so that they could serve as bi-vocational ministers. After several years of operating the college in Mississippi, he moved the college to Texas due to the turbulent racial strife and conditions they faced. He served as President of Bay Ridge for over thirty years, retiring in 1982. Due to his sacrifice, hard work and dedication, there are many persons who are currently serving as pastors and in ministry positions across this nation, because of this ministry that God birthed into his spirit.
